Thank you for clarifying your stance on the antagonist/agonist issue, I think you hit the nail on the head pointing out the fact that once you use the terms, reference points should remain consistent. So if I understand this problem correctly, scientists have begun to (or already have) identified the morphological and functional properties of this (the estrogen) receptor and have compared the differences between fully functional and less than functional follicles (this really sounds like the "switch" property you've mentioned). Hypothetically speaking, they then set out to design a peptide which would affect the transformation from the nonfunctional to the fully functional state via as yet highly unknown mechanisms. Truly, this is completely different from simply blocking the negative effects of estrogen. Granted, I am mostly thinking out loud at this point but I have to wonder if this receptor is the same as or similar to that of the DHT binding site. If not then why not target the DHT receptor in a similar fasion, assuming all other factors equal? This is my only question at this point and may be irrelevant as I have by no means researched these issues in much depth.
